Today we drove to the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines, located in Rapid City, SD. They had a great rock and mineral collection and several great dinosaur displays. On our way to the museum we ran across another herd of buffalo that had invaded a campground. The tatanka, as the local Lakota Indians call them, were surrounding campers and tents! How would you like to wake up to the sound of wild buffalo grunting outside your tent wall... NO THANKS! After our visit to the museum we were going to explore the "Jewel Caves" but all of their tours were full... Instead we ended up going through all of the little shops in the towns of Hill and Custer. We ate lunch outside at an old firehouse in Rapid City that was converted into a restaurant! Overall it was a was a relaxing day and it ended with and us sitting around a blazing fire all bundled up in long pants, long sleeve shirts, and SWEATERS!!! (sorry to all of you back home who had heat advisories today) :(
*Side Note: The campground where we are staying, Custer's Gulch Campground, has photos and other documented proof that Custer and his army had a camp in this very location! It's kind of cool to think about as we sit and watch the woods and meadow that surrounds our camper.*
